This “Jewel of Algoma” was constructed over a three year period, and finished in 1910. The owner, Mel Perry, began Ahnapee Veneer and seating in 1892. The house displays his company’s fine work of mahogany and tiger oak veneers. They are well complemented by a plethora of leaded beveled glass windows. Owners Shaun and Brad Schmiling have taken great care to restore the Colonial Revival home and it is now recommended for the National Register of Historic Places. While here, stroll the Crescent Beach Boardwalk, tour and taste at the von Stiehl Winery, then enjoy shops and a café within a few blocks. All night life is within a short walking distance. Algoma is close to the Ahnapee state bike trail and is renown for great lake fishing. Minutes from Door County and blocks from Lake Michigan, this guest house is in a fabulous location. | |||||||||||||||||||
