Brambleberry B&B

Whether you come from near or far, Brambleberry Bed and Breakfast is a whole other world away. Only at Brambleberry can you imagine yourself at a charming and whimsical English/Scottish country manor house. Our romantic, eco-friendly country home provides couples with a blissfully comfortable, restorative and intimate sanctuary retreat. Rest, relax and reconnect at a leisurely pace. Nurture your spirit and commune with nature on our scenic, tranquil wooded trail. Enjoy an evening glass of wine in our book-lined lounge. Luxuriate in the sublime comfort of our beautiful guest rooms with elegant canopy beds, some with fireplace and whirlpool. In the morning indulge in our generous three-course candlelight breakfast.

Brambleberry house (which takes it name from our numerous blackberry plants, called brambleberries in Scotland) is surrounded by our own 80 acres of fields, woods, pastures, streams and gardens as well as nearly 600 acres owned and farmed by family members. We’re ideally located at the end of a beautiful, peaceful valley about 16 miles west of Black River Falls, Wisconsin and 33 miles north of La Crosse shopping and restaurants.

It's an easy drive to antiques, Amish farms, Tenba winery, restaurants, breweries, museums, golf, state parks, scuba diving, canoeing and kayaking, Mississippi River boat tours, public hunting, Valley View Mall in La Crosse, biking, skiing and snowmobile trails.

While we specialize in providing romantic weekends for couples, we warmly encourage and welcome other guests, including reunion groups, girlfriend/mother/daughter getaway groups, local wedding and funeral guests, business travelers and vacationing families with teens 15 and older -- no younger children or pets, please.

Here at Brambleberry, a romantic weekend in the country truly is an affordable treat. Our rooms range from $95 to $159, depending on amenities. A warm Highland welcome awaits you.

Innkeepers and wine columnists Chris and Sherry Hardie welcome you to their home, which for generations has been a place for family and friends to gather. With that sense of gracious hospitality, we invite our guests to share the warm atmosphere reminiscent of an English country house.

Every evening we offer a complimentary glass of quality wine with your hosts. If you enjoy wine, this is the Wisconsin bed and breakfast for you.

Our four comfortable guest rooms are the perfect place to escape for rest, relaxation, romance and to reconnect. Warm and inviting, each is uniquely decorated, with furniture, decorations and color precisely selected for that room. All have top-of-the-line, luxurious Sealy mattresses for your comfort.

This is the perfect spot to celebrate your anniversary, honeymoon, birthday or other special occasion.

All rooms have private baths, CD players, A/C, hairdryer and alarm clock. Two of our rooms -- the Horse and Hounds and English Country -- have a two-person jetted tub and fireplace. All but the Sweetbriar wing (which has a TV and DVD player) come with satellite TV. We have more than 120 videos and DVDs that you may pick from. Wireless Internet is available throughout.

We are a smoke-free inn. Guests may smoke outside.

Our rooms
English Country: This room features a queen canopy bed, double jetted-tub whirlpool, fireplace (electric) TV, VCR/DVD player, CD player). Warm, sunny, golden, brushed walls depict rural English countryside scenes. Central to the room is a canopy bed, hung with ivory eyelet dressings in front of the fireplace. View the fireplace or the TV from our two comfy, reclining wingback chairs. Enjoy our antique furnishings, including a family heirloom table and a vanity. Overlooks front lawn. Located on second floor. (336 square feet) $159.

Horse and Hounds
(King-size bed, double jetted-tub whirlpool, fireplace (electric), TV, VCR/DVD player, CD player)
Quintessential English country style depicting the former days of the aristocracy when fox hunting was a popular sport. Horse and Hounds features a king-size bed, draped in a paneled half-tester canopy. Wainscot walls are accented by a masculine tartan wallpaper in shades of green and burgundy. Rich, red oak floors. Two mission style chairs are a great place to view the fireplace, TV or read a book. Writing desk. Located on the first floor. (336 square feet). $149

Wedgewood Room: (Queen-size canopy bed. Deep antique soaking tub, satellite TV, DVD player, CD player).
Soft blue walls, crisp white woodwork and crown molding set the tone for this bright and cheerful space. Parquet floor.
A romantic queen canopy bed draped in delicate white eyelet bedding is accented with a blue toile quilt and pillows. Soft and luxurious 500-thread count Laura Ashley sheets.
A lovely reproduction print of Gainsborough's Blue Boy hangs above the two comfortable wingback reclining chairs. Wedgewood and Spode blue transferwear plates accent one wall.
Luxuriate in our antique deep soaking tub. Gaze at the lovely English bluebell wood print and you can almost imagine yourself there.
Located on the second floor, overlooking the farm buildings. (312 square feet)($119)

Sweetbriar Wing:(Queen bed, two double beds, TV with local channels, DVD player, CD player). Maximum six guests.
(Queen bed, two double beds, TV with local channels, DVD player, CD player). Comfortably sleeps four, but can sleep up to six when double beds are shared.
Sweetbriar is the Scottish rose. This wing of the house is conveniently set up for friends or family traveling together as it affords the optional use of a second bedroom. Both small, yet pleasant and cozy rooms are painted a soothing sage green and decorated with rose botanic prints and pictures of Victorian women.
The primary bedroom has a high, romantic Victorian style four-poster queen bed, with a burgundy comforter contrasting the walls. There is an antique carved setee, TV, DVD player and CD player. Adjoining the bedroom is a small attic nook with two chairs -- perfect for storing luggage. The lovely view west overlooks the creek and a wooded pasture. Wall-hung lamps light the room.
Optional to use, the second bedroom has two standard double beds covered by rose floral comforters (not as luxurious as our king and queen beds but vastly superior to a sofa bed or cot). There is just enough space to walk around the beds. One person on each bed will be comfortable. We think two on each double bed will be a squeeze, but that of course, is up to you. There is a radio. The view is north, overlooking the front lawn and the gargoyle protecting the house from the porch roof. This room also is lit by lamps.
The bathroom, tucked under a sloping attic roof, has two doors -- one adjoining the primary bedroom -- the other leading to the hall for the other bedroom to access only seven feet away. The tub is original to the house and has a hand-held shower attachment.
These two rooms are only rented together as a suite to the same party, so the bathroom remains private, used only by your group. If you don't use the second room, you don't pay for it, as we only charge a $25 additional fee per extra person using it.
In consideration of the smaller room size and low bathroom ceiling, Sweetbriar is budget priced. ($95 double, $25 for each additional guest, maximum 6)
