Bliss and sin … (and 14th century Middle English!)

When I was in college, I read the Middle English tale Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. I liked it. However, my then-professor was not impressed with my essay about it.

My writing sucked, and I did not understand the sin of cupiditas. I did master the other seven sins: Pride, avarice, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and sloth.

I received a D+ for my efforts on the essay. I don’t know anything more disheartening for an English major and philosophy minor.

When I wrote the essay, I thought it was amazing.

Looking back at the essay, I see bad writing but an OK thought process.

I want to turn my attention back to the seven sins, specifically gluttony, and their impact (or lack of impact) in our modern lives in this blog.

For fun, I am going to post the original essay with all its errors in a day or two.
